as a compromise between Melbourne & Sydney.

The ACT stretches 88km from north to south & 
only 30km from west to east
with a population of a little over 300,000.

The Capital of the ACT is Canberra & 
means meeting place in aboriginal.

was established by the British in 1829.

Today Western Australia's economy mainly relies on 
mining, agriculture and tourism.

The coast of the Northern Territory 
was first seen by Europeans in the 1800s.

The British were the first Europeans 
to settle at Port Darwin in 1869.

Today the economy is based on tourism,
especially Kakadu National Park in the Top End &
the Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park in central Australia,
& mining. 

The capital city of Northern Territory is Darwin.




Tasmania

Tasmania is an Australian island & state.

It is 240 kilometres south of the continent,
separated by Bass Strait.

Tasmania was totally inhabited by
Aborigines 35, 000 years ago.

First sighting of Tasmania by a European was in 1642
by the Dutch explorer Abel Tasman.

Captain James Cook also sighted the island in 1777.

British first settled in Tasmania in 1803 &
The population today is 507,626.
