Day 8: Monday 15th August
Rome Airport
This morning we will transfer to Rome airport
for our flight bound for the WYD host city of Madrid.
Madrid Airport
On arrival we will join the streams of young pilgrims
converging today on the World Youth Day host city &
our long awaited meeting with the youth of the world &
Pope Benedict XVI.
Welcome
Upon our arrival in Spain's capital, we will be welcomed & ushered
to our designated place of accommodation.
WYD Pilgrim's Bags
At this point we will receive our WYD pilgrim's bag
containing the WYD handbook, tourist guide, pilgrim pass, transport card &
all the information you need to get around Madrid &
participate in WYD events.
University Residence Lodgings
We will stay 7 nights in Madrid at University Residence Lodgings.
Feast of the Assumption of Mary - 15 August
While the when & the how of Mary's assumption is utterly a mystery,
there is no doubt that the reason for her assumption is ultimately a matter of love,
God's gracious love in response to Mary's faithfulness.
In Mary we see an ordinary woman who becomes extraordinary
by virtue of her faith in what God makes possible in her life.
Mary not only listened to God's word & heard it,
but she allowed the Word to take flesh in her life.
In & through her feminine humanity she proclaims the greatness
of God's love for all humanity & in this sense is a disciple of God's love.
This feast today is an opportunity to celebrate the heavenly rewards
of such a loving discipleship & to be inspired at how lowly humanity can be raised
to such glorious heights simply because of love!
This is an epic Catholic feast day worldwide
& Spain even celebrates it with a public holiday today!

Madrid
The city of Madrid has some amazing sites & attractions &
it will be alive with hundreds of thousands of young people
who have come for this great act of faith.

I just looked at all the pictures and they are great.Melissa must be having a great time and seeing so many interesting places.Mrs Arndell you must miss her but she will be home soon with so much to tell you and show you all her pictures.I hope we get to go to WYD when we are in highschool.
I think Melissa would of had a great time Mrs Arndell and she wil be bringing back stories and what a fun time she had
